Waking up, wrapped in a black jersey sheet, it took me a second to figure out where I was. I groaned and pulled a pillow over my face. I’d slept with Jamieson Hart. I hadn’t just kissed him. No, I’d slept with him.

I could still feel the spots where his fingers had gripped me tightest, where his teeth had left marks on my skin. The thought of it made my insides tremble. I’d slept with him, and I wanted to do it again.

Wrapped in his arms, feeling him burn beside me, I couldn’t help but recognize the power of his touch. I knew what that power meant. Every wolf was taught to look for it in their partners.

Wolves that found their mates were stronger, faster, and more respected by the pack, forever bound together. Mating was for life, and when it happened that power could not be ignored.

Sitting up in the bed, I sighed, dropping my head into my hands. Most people loved their mates. Their bonds were fierce, and they were loyal to each other, but Jamie? History aside, I barely knew the man let alone his wolf.

A faint whistling sound caught my attention, and I looked up searching for the source. Jamie’s bedroom was sparce. Just a large king size bed, a dark wood dresser against the wall at the foot of the bed, and a desk beneath the window of the wall to my right. He didn’t have any pictures out, or knickknacks. Just the essentials.

Beside the dresser, one of the French doors, blocking his bedroom off from the rest of the house, sat open casting a ring of light across the ground. The whistling was coming from another room in the house.

I started to swing my legs over the edge of the bed to go in search of my clothes, and I froze. Sitting on the bedside table next to me was a folded note, a glass of water, and a bottle of Tylenol. I unfolded the note, and my cheeks burned.

Good morning,

I’m sorry for leaving you to wake up alone, but you looked so peaceful, and I had to take a call. When you’re ready, I’ve laid your jeans out on the end of the bed and pulled a shirt out that you can wear since I destroyed your other one last night. Get dressed and meet me in the kitchen. I think we need to talk.

Glancing around, I took two of the medication he’d left me, and sighed. My pants and a black oversized tee shirt were sitting on the end of the bed just as he’d said. A tee-shirt that smelled exactly like him when I slipped it on. Leather and rainwater. A walking thunderstorm.

Fully dressed, but barefoot, I padded over to the door, soft and as quiet as I could. The blue tile of the kitchen floor was cold beneath my feet. Jamie stood with his back to me, pouring coffee into a mug. I heard him sniff the air, and his head lifted.
